Why should I work with an Executive Mentor?

Because you want to bridge the gap between where you are, and where you want to be. A Mentor can provide the stepping stones or signposts to the path you want to create. In an environment of exploration and clarity we help you to grow ideas, apply learnings (from your own and others' lessons), analyse options and carve your direction.

How will an Executive Mentor help me?

A Mentor is someone who is able to guide and assist you by using the benefit of their experience. This may be as a result of having specific practice and knowledge that is directly relevant to the skill base of the mentee, or by distilling many years of wide-ranging experience which allows them to give guidance in a more general way.​

There are many benefits to having a Mentor and these will depend on the precise form of relationship and what the agreed aims are at the start of the process. These may include:

  • increased clarity and understanding of role and skills needed to progress 

  • improved skills and capabilities

  • better confidence in their position as a result of being able to discuss and rationalise issues

  • identify skill sets needed for development and what resources or actions are needed for this​

  • gain self-awareness

  • unlock potential

What can I expect from an Executive Mentor?

Typically, there are number of phases to the mentoring process. These will be agreed between the Mentor, the Client and the Organisation (if applicable), and often include:

  • investigation or assessment

  • exploration of issues

  • sharing of knowledge / growing capabilities

  • action plans and followups

A Mentor provides a confidential and trusted confidant for the Mentee. They should:​​

  • ask questions, work through answers with you

  • challenge assumptions

  • help achieve clarity

  • provide resources to grow skills and transfer knowledge

  • help to establish ongoing opportunities and development goals

Individuals often directly engage our services, however it can be the organisation that hires the Mentor as part of an Executive Development Programme.​ 

Mentoring is a more informal process than Executive Coaching; it tends not to follow specific frameworks. The length of the mentoring process will depend on the scope of the assignment and whether there are specific skills or knowledge that the client is looking to gain from the Mentor.​

Where does Executive Mentoring happen?

Similar to coaching, mentoring can happen anywhere - virtual meetings, face to face sessions, over the phone or even outdoors.​

Executive mentoring can be short term and specific, medium to long term over a number of months, or ongoing throughout a career.
